MITE6024-Session2-Activity for group 1

Session2-Activity for group 1
Review some of these examples and then select one for your review. Provide brief review in your Blogs (you might be asked to present).

Review Example: Air Pollution

Firstly, the reason we chose this example to review is that the environment issues become more and more severe. Meantime, the air pollution is widely referred to. While, the air pollution issue in HongKong pay wide popular attention.

At the homepage of “Air Pollution”, I can quickly know what the page-designer want to describe. The designer gives a clear statement about these core contents-the causes, effects, and solutions of air pollution. Besides, the designer presents a figure to explain the relation between these three aspects and people’s action. It is a so good homepage. Although this page is comparatively simply, it gave readers a very clear impression on what the main contents. Therefore, I think that the design was based on the constructivism theory. The designer uses the knowledge through assimilation and understanding, and then constructs his own knowledge.

After readers click every button, they would enter subpages, in which they can get detail information about above four aspects. In every subpage, there contained some hyperlinks and further detail information. Meanwhile, the designer based on the fact and provided a larger number of data and vivid pictures to clearly describe the concept of air pollution. Indeed, the designer based on the fact and provided a larger number of data and vivid pictures to clearly describe the concept of air pollution. In this example, it is an active process which people need to further read and comprehend, and then to discovery their own cognition.

Through this webpage, the designer gives readers some room to think, helps them to develop thinking and search for some ways of problem solving. It is a quite good process to make connections between facts and getting knowledge. Moreover, the reader is not only the acceptor, but also a participant. In this leaning process, it is also a cognitive process. The designer use webpage to represent his mind, which based on the facts and manipulated by the mind. While, readers or learners can get and restructure their cognitive system with this concept, by processing these facts, figures and explanation. Therefore, through learning this topic, I find there are some relationship between the cognitivism and constructivism. To some extend, they are closely correlative.

On the whole, it is a good example, which give me the detail information what I want to get and want to know. While, the design defect I think is that when you open the homepage, it will simultaneity open a “Instrutions” page, which tell readers the main contents and aims about this topic and the contact to facilitator. My advice is that the design can create a dialog box when learners enter the homepage, rather than the single page.

In conclusion, it is a pretty and interactive example for E-learning.

MITE6328-Activity1

Activity1
Report on your present or previous experiences in the workplace. How best would you describe how your organisation learnt.

My report:
I was once as an intern in an industrial association which belongs to the local Industrial and Commercial Bureau.

In this association, the workforce is comparatively elder, and almost all are retired from military or the relatives of soldiers, and enjoy the proximate salary, welfare, and benefits with the bureau’s civil servants. Generally speaking, their job is to assistant bureau’s civil servants, to inspect the business license and business scope of some district companies.

When I entered this association, there was using a new on-line system. The staff needs to input those companies’s balance sheet and profit statement, and then the staff would get those companies’ operation situation which was automatically analyzed by the system. However, those information provided by the system is for reference only. The staff needs to find out the reasons why some financial data does not meet the system’s standard. During my internship, I found the most problem they faced was not analysis those financial data. In contrast, staffs had many difficulties in handling this system. For example, they had difficulties in inputting company’s balance sheet and profit statement. In details, they could not adjust their on-line system, because they did not know how to input the correct data in the correct space.

The bureau once organized some lectures to assist those staffs, but the effect is not striking. When I entered this association, my main job is to help them input those data. After some try, I discovered that the main point which confused the staffs was the different description between the on-line system and company’s financial statements. As a result, they always put the data to the wrong space, and made the statements unbalanced.

Due to this system was bought from a financial company, the bureau could not edit its programming language, the only way we could do was to adjust it. The way we took was to find the relations between the on-line statements and company’s financial statements. Then we recorded the corresponding formula, which help us to discover the correct data we needed. One month later, the efficiency was remarkable promoted.

MITE6024-Activity 1

Activity1:
Report on your previous experiences of using (or seeing) technology being used for teaching or for learning.  Include some reflection or comment from a parent, employer/ employee, teacher, student perceptive about their views of how technology affordances support learning.

My Report:
With the IT industry quickly developed, there are more popular technology used in our daily life, such as Blog, Wikipedia, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

I have many wonderful experiences of using these popular tools. Meanwhile, Blog is one of my favorite technology used in my life. I update my Blog regularly. I always convey my feelings in my Blog. Besides, I like visiting all kinds of blog-pages which record many interesting stories, news and articles. It is a better channel to broaden our horizon, and we can acquire many different culture and knowledge. Moreover, Blogs is a quite good way to communicate with different people. Sometimes, people can interchange their ideals by leaving messages with the blog-owner, which is a pretty wonderful experience.

Recently, there is explosive growth of Microblogs in China. The audience of Liu Xiang, the Olympic winner, has passed ten million. Many companies, press and even local government, authorities, bureaus all create there Microblog account. Although Microblog only send 144 characters, it is influencing people’s daily life. For instance, People can easily get the summaries and comments about one book, can quickly acquire the latest news or information. Meanwhile, the speed is so quick. Therefore, there is a catchword in China, “Are you playing Microblog, today?”

In addition, “Wikipedia” is a fairly good tool. If you have some unknowns whatever involve Business, Economy, Education or any thing else. “Wikipedia” will help you, and give you a clear explanation and concept. Therefore, you can easily learn by yourself. In China, a majority of students and teachers like using “Baidu Baike”, which is similar to “Wikipedia”. Besides, there is another widely used technology by the young called “Baidu Zhidao”. In that system, users can on-line ask questions, then other users will answer those questions or give some suggestions. Sometimes, the responders even provide specific web-page links. Through this channel, the questions can be easily and quickly solved. To some extend, it is an interactive study process.

The majority of children, teenages and young people all love using above technologies. In their opinion, it stands for popularity and trend. If you do not use them, perhaps it means you have fallen behind the times. However, some parents and old people do not like them. They think it wastes time, and children need spend more time on their study. To some extent, some old person do not believe IT is a good assistant for learning. While, there are more children and youngs only regard IT as a tool to entertainment in China. Therefore, there still exist some differences about the role of IT, for learning, teaching or only recreation.
